Students will be assessed by the supervisor in terms of interest and ability to solve engineering problems.

WITHDRAWAL OF FYP COURSE CAN BE DONE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 2024.

For FYP 1, please upload the report draft in pdf. Sufficient to write a draft up to the methodology chapter. However, students can write more than that.

For FYP 2, please upload the report draft in pdf according to UTM format and technical paper in MS Word.

PRESENTATION DAY
Students are required to prepare slides and deliver a physical presentation. Details regarding the presentation, including the time and venue, can be accessed through your MarksSubmission account. Each presentation is allocated 15 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q&A session. Students are expected to dress professionally. For any inquiries, please contact your supervisor or the FYP panel coordinator promptly.

FYP 1 students are required to submit:

FYP 2 students are required to submit:

  1. Draft report according to UTM thesis format in pdf format
  2. Technical paper according to the format of "Jurnal Mekanikal"
  3. E-report *
  4. E-report declaration (embeded in e-report) *
  5. Synopsis * )

* These documents can be uploaded after the presentation day. Signature of supervisor is required for e-report and e-report declaration.

FYP 1 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Supervisor (70%):
Supervisors will evaluate twice. One mid-semester, it is called interim evaluation. Another at the end of the semester, it is called FYP 1 draft evaluation. Assessment will be made based on student's interest and attitude, work planning and execution, effort and independence and problem understanding. For FYP 1 draft evaluation, it will be focused on problem statement, objectives and scopes, literature reviews and methodology.

Presentation (30%):
Students are required to make a presentation for 15 minutes and a question and answer session for 10 minutes. Evaluation will focus on problem identification, literature review, methodology, work planning, quality of slides, voice and eye contact, attire and response to questions.

PLEASE MEET AND DISCUSS WITH YOUR SUPERVISOR. THEY KNOW THE BEST WAY TO START A RESEARCH, THE DO'S, THE DON'T AND HOW MAKE A GOOD PRESENTATION.

According to the Academic Regulations of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Part VII, Section 1.0, Sub-section 1.4), students with an attendance of less than 80% (A) can be barred from sitting for the final examination (B). Students can be given zero marks. This failure will result in the student failing for the FYP course. Please take this rule seriously.

(A) Attendance in the context of FYP is the frequency of meeting with the supervisor and fully performing all tasks set by the supervisor.
(B) The final exam for FYP is a presentation in an FYP seminar.

FYP 2 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Supervisor (40%):
Supervisors will evaluate twice. One mid-semester, it is called interim evaluation. Another at the end of the semester, it is called thesis draft evaluation (in FYP report format). Assessment will be made based on student's interest and attitude, work planning and execution, effort and independence and problem understanding. For FYP report will evaluate in terms of abstract, problem statement, objectives and scopes, literature reviews, methodology, results, analysis and discussion, conclusion, recommendation, thesis format and writing skills. Students are also required to submit a technical paper (in Jurnal Mekanika format). Assessment will be made based on abstract, literature review, methodology, result and discussion, conclusion, references and overall technical paper write-up quality.

Moderator (20% x 2 moderator = 40%):
The thesis draft (in FYP report format) will be evaluated by two moderators. They will evaluate in terms of abstract, problem statement, objectives and scopes, literature reviews, methodology, results, analysis and discussion, conclusion, recommendation, thesis format and writing skills.

Presentation (20%):
Students are required to make a presentation for 15 minutes and a question and answer session for 10 minutes. Evaluation will focus on subject knowledge, depth of study, content of presentation, analysis and results interpretation, quality of slides, voice and eye contact, attire and response to questions.
